3 May 2009, 9:44 am

HI!! i am doing a report on Rose Greenhow, i have....: I, Rose Greenhow was born in Montgomery County, Maryland in 1817, where I lived on my parents farm until i was a teenager and was invited to my aunt’s girls boarding school in Washington D.C. When i was a little child, i was always called “wild Rose” but I don’t know why because i was always good except for some oc casinal pranks here and there. But soon, I would have a different name that changed my life forever. As I growing up, everybody knew me as a very smart, outgoing and personable girl. When I was older, I met my true love, Dr. Robert Greenhow and just fell in love. Even though he was 43 years old and i was only 23, but it did not matter to me. after a couple months, we got married and had four beautiful girls. Since my husband was a doctor in the civil war, he would tell me about what was going on in the war, and this is when i became a confederate spy. But, i still was a mother of four, I was a spy. Among all my accomplishments, this was the biggest probablly of them all, it was the ten-word secret message which i sent to General Pierre G.T. Beauregard which caused him to win the battle of Bull Run! Not to brag about myself, but i was such a great spy for the Confederacy, that Jefferson Davis gave me credit of winning the battle of Manassas! M new nickname became “rebel Rose” after i was arrested for my afforts in the spying buiesness be cause some people were getting suspicious. But the better thing was i could stay at my home so i could see my kids and take care of them! But, after awhile, people were getting suspicous and it turned out that they found out i was writing messages to certain people and so they took me and me 8-year old daughter to the Old Capi tial Prison where it was just misirable for me and my daughter. After i got out of jail me and my daughter, went with our family to Mexico, then to San Francisco, where my husband died of an injury, leaving me widowed, My daughters and I moved backed to Washington D.C. Since my hisband died, i found all of his notes and stuff that he would not tell me because he thought that I would not understand. Because I found this stuff, I was doing and having even more buesiness in the spying cata gory. Finally, in May, 1862, I was sent to Richmond, where i was greeted as a heroine. I was appointed to a diplomatic mission in England and France the summer, and I was published her memoirs, My Imprisonment and the First Year of Abolition Rule at Washington D.C. As a part of the propaganda effort to bring England into the war on the side of the Confederacy. When I returned in America in 1864, I was on the blockade runner Condor when it was chased by a Union ship and ran aground on a sandbar at the mouth of the Cape Fear River storm. She asked to be put into a lifeboat, along with 2,000 in gold sovereigns that i was carrying, to avoid capture; instead, the stormy sea and the heavy load swamped the boat and I drowned. I was given a wonderful full military funeral and buried in Wilmington, North Carolina. When I died, my children were still not old anough to fully take care of them selves so my Aunt took them in at her boarding school. But for the way she *died* i do not no, because i have a bunch of information. if you guys could help me out that would be GREAT!!... Read More »
